25 Teams in 25 Days: Brooklyn Law & Tech Jets
2016-17 Season at a Glance: 18-0 regular season record, Brooklyn A Northeast regular season champs. Runner up in the 2017 “A” city championship
Key additions: Julio Cero, David Grady III
Players to Watch: Larry Moreno
The Jets of Brooklyn Law & Tech suffered a heartbreaking loss at the Buzzer to Walton High school last season, in the city championship now the jets are focused on making another run with some of their core players returning and some key additions.
The Jets made their runs during the summer playing in tons of summer tournaments across the five boroughs. At these tournaments they held their own and beat teams that featured the top players in the city. Some of their key wins during the summer were against Thomas Jefferson and the NY Lightning. The Jets were able to carry their success in the summer onto the preseason by beating teams such as Wings Academy, Christ the King, and others in preseason tournaments such as Tru Ballaz and Beacon 158.
Larry Moreno is up for a big senior season. The St. Francis bound guard has proven to be one of the top scorers in the city putting on great scoring performances on any court he has stepped on. In the More Than A Game Preseason Invitational Championship, Moreno torched Chaminade for 39 points. Moreno hit 11 3-pointers in that game. Moreno isn’t the only guy who could put up big numbers, on Monday Power Forward Victor Ogbo scored 32 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in a win over St. Anthony’s (LI) at the Beacon 158 fall tournament.
David Grady will bring something to the Jets that a lot of “A” division teams don’t have, an athletic wing that could score. On many nights, the 6-5 Forward can provide a matchup nightmare against other wings.
The Trio of Larry Moreno, David Grady III, and Victor Ogbo will make the Jets a contender, but at the same time they have a supporting cast that will help them get there. Some of the players in the supporting cast include, Julio Cero a transfer from Westinghouse and David Grady III a transfer from Nazareth. There’s also Davonta Cook, a junior guard who will contribute more on the offensive end.
The Jets have always proved that they can play well against “AA” teams which will make the borough playoffs interesting come February, as for a city title run that’s a definite. The Jets will return to the playoffs more mature then they were last year. The Jets will be challenged at times but along with playing hard they will also have to play smarter in order to be champs in March. just last year the Jets squandered a 17 point lead in the title game to Walton. The Jets will definitely make sure that doesn't happen again
