The 2026-27 season has arrived, and there’s a lot of excitement about the conference this year, especially the local Big East Teams. The league has a new commissioner in Tim Brosnan, and there are aspirations for six teams to make the NCAA tournament since the field expanded to 76 teams.

Red Storm Complete Exhibition Slate with 3-0 record, Continue to Stay Ready Through The Eligibility Chaos

Within the Big East and across the nation, coaching staffs had to handle the arduous task of attending eligibility hearings for players while preparing for the upcoming season. So far, St. John’s hasn’t been hit with any bad news. Quinn Ellis, the 23-year-old European PG, has become eligible for this season while Babacar Sane and Keyshawn Hall remain eligible under a TRO (temporary Restraining Order) until their next hearing on November 9th.

The Red Storm didn’t let their Eligibility woes shake them, as they completed a successful Exhibition slate, going 3-0 with wins against Drexel, Rutgers (in 4 OTs), and their most impressive win yesterday against Texas at MSG. Watching the games away from the arena allowed us to watch them closely and see what they can give

From the improvements of captain Ian Jackson (18 Points) to the dominance from newcomers Tounde Yessofou (23 points) and Keyshawn Hall (24 Points)  to the great decision-making from Quinn Ellis, there are so many things to feel great about the No. 13-ranked St. John’s Team going into the season starting next week. Still, greater challenges are ahead, with non-conference games against Syracuse on November 15th, the Players Era tournament in Vegas, Arizona in December, and many more.

Even though the Center position is concerning for the St. John’s Red Storm, there’s definitely a way it can improve as the season progresses. Ruben Prey’s foul trouble is an issue, but Freshman big man Theo Edema was a huge boost for St. John’s in the Exhibition win against Texas. In 12 minutes, he scored 4 points, grabbed 7 boards, and blocked 1 shot. It showed that Edema could be seeing the floor a lot more if he continues to improve.

Pirates Edge Monmouth in lone Exhibition Game 53-50

This past Weekend, the Seton Hall Pirates survived a scare against Monmouth, winning their exhibition game 53-50. The game was needed by the Pirates, who have a whole new roster of players, including homecoming products Terry Copeland and Simeon Wilcher, who combined for 19 points in the win. The Pirates, picked to finish 9th in the Big East in the preseason poll, start their season next Monday as they host Saint Peter’s at the Prudential Center.
